Calchemy on Palm OS

This is how Calchemy starts up...

If we evaluate the two example problems, we see:

Now let's suppose we want to compute the length, on a side, of a 10 acre parcel of land...  And we want the result in feet...

To start out, we know we have to take the square root of 10 acres...  We begin by telling Calchemy to take the square root (using a built-in function from the "other functions" dialog) of 10 of something...

We are building an equation at the bottom of the screen:

We then tap the "Select" button to use the "unit select" dialog to find all of the units of area known to Calchemy...  We select "acre":

Just to be sure, we can ask Calchemy to give us the details on the unit "acre"...  We see it is a unit of land measure:

We say "OK" there and then add a "?" to the equation using a button on the screen.  The "?" separates the expression we want to evaluate from the unit of measure that we want the result expressed in.

We want our result expressed in feet, so we then search for the unit "foot" by name, graffiti'ing in the first two characters and tapping the "Search" button to use the "unit search" dialog to find all of the units that begin with "fo" known to Calchemy:

We select the unit "foot" and tap OK and we have a complete equation.

We tap the "=" button on the screen and we are done:

A square of 10 acres is 660 feet on a side!
